Books & Activities for Toddlers

This summer has been a ton of fun, but it has also been difficult as we transitioned into having a new baby & energetic toddler at the same time. Harper wants to be outside & doing all sorts of fun things, while we have been working hard to let Eloise have plenty of good naps in her crib rather than always on the go. She also can’t be in the heat for very long, so it has ruled out a lot of fun outdoor activities during the day. So we have spent many a lazy day at home reading & doing other activities with our mini library of books! I love reading other moms’ book recommendations, because let’s face it, reading the same ones over & over again is never any fun. So here are a few of our favorites, along with activities we like to do with a few of them.

A few newborn classics that we have now read to both girls since they were born include Goodnight Moon, Brown Bear, Brown Bear & Are You My Mother. These all remind me so much of my own childhood, nothing makes me happier than reading them to my girls.

The Cat at Night has been one of our very favorites since the first time we opened it. The story is so cute & fun for kids, plus the pages are just stunning. This book is perfect for counting, naming animals (and their sounds), matching/memory & colors. Almost every page of this book is ripped, it is so well loved! 🙂

If you haven’t picked up a copy of Flora and the Flamingo, you will be pleasantly surprised by what’s inside! There are no words, just amazing illustrations & hidden pages to explore. Harper loves to read this one on the floor & do what they are doing in the book.

The Babylit Series are also favorites of ours, Alice in Wonderland focuses on colors while Pride & Prejudice is a counting book, such a fun & creative take on these classics! Harper loves them & I am obsessed with the illustrations. These can be super interactive as well, we get out her crayons so she can count them, match colors, or even draw some of the things in the books. This keeps her busy forever & she enjoys it so much more than just reading through the books.

We also love the Orla Kiely Books, they are really fun, beginner numbers & colors books for toddlers. The Llama Llama series are always a hit, and Press Here is our newest obsession that Harper just goes nuts for.

What are some of your favorite books? I’d love for you to share what your toddlers enjoy reading or activities that they do with their books! PS. Harper’s books & the ones in our playroom are displayed on photo ledges from Ikea, you can find similar here & here. I love these because you can put them low on the wall without worrying about your toddler walking into them, allowing them to grab & put back books whenever they want! 😉

Have a happy weekend, friends. I love you all & I can’t say it enough, thanks so much for reading & for the sweet support of the blog. XO

It’s too easy: make a white cake (from a box), poke holes in it with a toothpick, make jello according to directions in a saucepan and pour over top, and then put in the fridge for 3-5 hours to cool and set! Frost with whipped cream and serve chilled!!

Impulsively painted this little powder/laundry roo Impulsively painted this little powder/laundry room green and I’m obsessed. Sacrificed just one sweatshirt and my favorite pair of socks because I was way too lazy to change into painting clothes but overall: worth it. Also don’t look too close, 100 year old plaster walls are the opposite of smooth. On the hunt for some fun art next!! Swipe for before and afters 🖤
