Cozy Lake House Bunk Room

We are so excited to have our bunk room construction under way at the lake house! Let’s back up a bit so I can share a little bit about the space. When we saw the house for the first time, we actually didn’t even know that there was a second floor (upstairs), and it wasn’t until our inspection where we actually met the builder of the house, that we found out about the space! The original owners wanted the space to finish later on, but had planned for it to be accessed only through an elevator, which they never ended up adding. We use the elevator shaft as closet space (because hello, kids and elevators do not mix), so we knew that if we ever wanted to access the space we would need to add stairs! Our lake house is three bedrooms right now, and we entertain a ton, so we decided that finishing the third level to be a bunk room was the way to go! There will be a large bunk room with eight full size bunks, another bedroom with a queen or king bed, a full bath and a big open loft/landing area that we will use as a tv/lounge room for the kids. The stairs were added a few weeks ago and it is so crazy to be able to walk up there and see so much more house!

I wanted to share our design plans with you and some progress pictures! The entire space will be painted Simply White by Benjamin Moore (like the main floor) and the wood flooring will continue as well. I am leaning towards a warm and cozy, “sleeping at grandma’s house” feel for the bunk space, but also can’t get away from nautical details!

ONE // TWO // THREE // FOUR // FIVE // SIX // SEVEN

There are still a few final details that I need to make decisions on for our contractors, like the bathroom tile and possible wallpaper for the single bedroom. So cozy, right?! We went with the same double wall mounted sink that we used in our basement remodel & this fun rattan mirror that I found on sale for the bathroom. Also how much duck and fish decor is too much for this space? The limit does not exist.

Drywall started this week so hopefully I will have a super fun update for you by the weekend when we go out again to celebrate my birthday!! Thanks so much for following along!! XO

They also surprised US with an Easter egg hunt around the house with recycled Easter eggs filled with hand written notes and coupons to cash in for hugs, compliments, etc. How did we get here?! The girls could hardly sleep Saturday night bursting with excitement to host our friends & neighbors for donuts in the morning, they were up before the sun ready to start setting the tables & rolling dough. For everyone reading this with babies & toddlers, just know that all of those sweet traditions you are creating will make a home in their hearts, and one day they’ll be the ones making the magic for you. 🤍🤍🤍
