Iowa Trip Part Two: Apple Picking & the Farm

Our second day in Iowa, we spent at Wilson’s Apple Orchard outside Iowa City with Brandon’s family. It was our first time going apple picking & was such a fun time. I was a little nervous about how far we would have to walk with the kids but we took along a wagon for the bigger kids (Harper & her cousins) to ride in. It was amazing weather & the kids had tons of fun running around in the fields (and stepping on rotten apples, gross). This place also had delicious hot apple turnovers & apple cider donuts, who can say no to that? 🙂 Definitely a fun Fall family activity!

Another stop on our food tour of Iowa, The Pit BBQ in downtown Iowa City. It was one of our favorite college spots to stumble into at 2 am after the bars closed. I woke up with a basket of Pit fries (and ketchup) in my bed the next morning on more than one occasion. And I’m sure I don’t have to say it, but that’s Brandon’s mom snuggling Eloise, hard to tell who looks happier here! 😉

We also spent a day at my brother’s new (old) farmhouse. My grandparents drove up from Missouri to see us, which was so great because we really only get to see them once a year. They got to meet Eloise for the first time & couldn’t believe how grown up Harper was. We loved seeing them & miss them so much! We grilled in the afternoon & then stuffed ourselves full of juicy Iowa watermelon. Eloise also got her first tooth during the trip (hence the giant drip of drool on my hand), so she was fussy most of the day, but she seems to be feeling much better now. Yay, baby girl!

And had to snap a quick pic in our casual mama & mini matching cat outfits, I’m obsessed with this tee & these leggings together! 😉

Hope you all had a great first day of Fall! The cool weather here today means windows open & that’s enough to put me in a great mood any day! 🙂

They also surprised US with an Easter egg hunt around the house with recycled Easter eggs filled with hand written notes and coupons to cash in for hugs, compliments, etc. How did we get here?! The girls could hardly sleep Saturday night bursting with excitement to host our friends & neighbors for donuts in the morning, they were up before the sun ready to start setting the tables & rolling dough. For everyone reading this with babies & toddlers, just know that all of those sweet traditions you are creating will make a home in their hearts, and one day they’ll be the ones making the magic for you. 🤍🤍🤍
